Swimmers take the plunge for those with a disability

YMCA SwimathonWith a few of retirements due to injury, work and family commitments, the Molonglo Water Dragons ended up fielding a team of four hardy swimmers in the YMCA Swimathon at Gungahlin Leisure Centre recently.  Mary Liz Partridge, Megan O’Mara, John Collis and Greg Reynolds swam 4 kilometres as a 4 person relay, with each swimmer clocking up 10X100m swims in fairly quick time – just over an hour.  It was a brisk but invigorating swim, with plenty of recovery time to support fairly fast 100m swims.

The event was well supported with a large number of children, family groups and other sporting teams taking part.  The Molonglo Water Dragons team raised $268, with eight generous donors supporting this worthy cause, which aims to help people with a disability learn to swim and be safe in the water.

Our next big dip in the fundraising pool will be the MS Mega Swim, and we hope to field a strong team of swimmers to do the 24 Hour Relay on the weekend 2-3 May.
